The Tyler Consolidated Silver Knights scored the go ahead touchdown at Webster Counties Highlander Field on Friday night when Quarterback Griffin Phillips got his third score of the game on a 10 yard scramble to give the Knights a seven point lead with 6:23 to play. The Knights elected to go for two but the run failed and the score stood at 33-26.

Webster County came right back and drove down the field with the help of two unsportsmanlike 15 yard penalties to punch the ball in from a yard out making it 33-32 Knights. However the Highlanders went for the win and the two point conversion run was good giving the home team a 34-33 lead with 3:38 to play.

After the Highlanders opened the game with a 14 yard run for a score with 4:31 left in the first period they failed on the two point run and held a 6-0 lead at the end of period one. The Silver Knights quickly took the ball down field in the second quarter and with 10:40 left in the half Phillips went in from a yard out and also tacked on the extra point conversion giving the Knights a 7-6 advantage.

The lead was short lived however as Webster took about five minutes off the clock before scoring on a 33 yard run to put the home team back in front 12-7. Tyler then put together a nice time consuming drive that resulted in another score when Phillips rambled in from three yards out, Phillips two point conversion run failed and the Knights took a 13-12 lead into the half.

Following the half Tyler took the kickoff and ate up some clock with a nice six minute drive ending in a four yard off tackle T.D. run. Phillips scored on the two point run and the Knights looked to be in pretty good shape with a 21-12 lead with a quarter and a half to play.

Both teams however decided the scoring wasn't over as the Highlanders took the next possession and scored on a 15 yard run with 4:06 left in the 3rd. The conversion run failed and the Knights held a three point lead. They then put together a nice drive with Rucker getting his second score of the game on a three yard run as time ran out in the third pushing the lead back to nine entering the last frame.

Webster County took the kickoff and with 10:23 left in the period scored on a 64 yard pass to pull the home team to within one after they tacked on the two point run.

The Silver Knights played tough ball all night not letting the four hour drive get them down. Phillips had a great game with 138 yards rushing and three touchdowns to go along with 12-18 passing for 168 yards and no interceptions. Colby Buchanan had another nice game as he caught four passes for 82 yards and was credited with eight tackles. Mark Rucker ended with 56 yards on 21 carries and Nate Lancaster ran five times for 18 yards. Riley Leasure also added eight tackles for the Knights.

The Knights had 18 first downs to 12 for Webster and 372 total yards to the home teams 345. The Knights had five penalties to six for the Highlanders but the two big ones toward the end of the game may have made the difference. Tyler lost one fumble while the home team lost two. The Knights fell to 1-2 on the season but could easily be 3-0. Look for them to rebound with a big win on Friday against Ravenswood.

"We played hard all night, I am proud of how the guys stepped up and made the big plays. We had a couple let downs on defense and of course the penalties hurt us towards the end. We will go back to work this week and try and correct some things and come out ready to play on Friday night. Webster County has a nice team, they aren't 3-0 for no reason. They have some big play makers but we stayed right with them and actually led the majority of the game. These kids work hard and they want to win, you never like to lose but I'm very happy with our effort," said Coach Walton.
