Paden City Falls in Homecoming Game

On a beautiful fall night, the Wildcats of Paden City gave the homecoming crowd something to cheer about as they took a first quarter lead over one of the states top single A schools Clay Battelle. With 3:37 to play in the quarter Wildcat quarterback Mike Shreves connected with Bryant McKay, lifting the Cat's to a 6-0 lead. Drew Carpenter came on and kicked the extra point through the uprights to make it 7-0.

The Cee-Be's found the going a little tough as the Cat's defense held them scoreless for a quarter and a half, coming up with some big hits before the visitors managed to mount a drive and get a score on a 12 yard run by Travis Dills. The two point conversion pass from Seth Casino to Logan Forquer was good to give Clay Battelle the lead 8-7 with 6:50 to play in the second quarter.

The outnumbered Cat's continued to play tough but with 1:25 to play in the half C.B. got another score on a 3 yard run from Dills and the conversion pass was again good for a 16-7 lead going into the locker room.

The Wildcats played excellent defense and kept within striking distance until the 6:54 mark of the third quarter when Clay Battelle scored on a 12 yard pass play. They connected on the two point try and the score stood at 24-7 with a quarter and a half to go.

The Cat's couldn't get the offense going and the visitor's took advantage as they added another score on a nine yard run with 9:20 to go for the final score of 32-7.

The Cat's were led by Ryan Cross, with 78 yards rushing on 12 attempts. Mike Shreves had a good night tossing the touchdown pass and completing 9-15 passes for 68 yards. Garrett Cross, had two catches for 39 yards and Bryant McKay caught four passes for 18 yards and the lone score.

Clay Battelle led in first downs 12-8 and had 385 total yards to Paden City's 153. The Wildcats lost one fumble and were penalized five times for 25 yards. Clay Battelle fumbled twice losing one and were penalized seven times for 65 yards.

The Wildcats fell to 1-5 on the season while the Cee-Bee's improved to 5-1. Paden City will be on the road next Friday when they travel to Hannan for a 6:30 p.m. contest.
