TCHS Boys Take First WTTL Meet

Sporting events for high school teams this spring have been few and far between; however, the Wetzel/Tyler Track League began without a hitch on April 2 at TCHS. The Silver Knights came away on top with 157.50 points to Magnolia's 133.00. Paden City picked up third place with 31.50 points; Beallsville finished with 7 points, while Valley ended with 2 points.

The Silver Knights took the top four spots in the 100-meter with sophomore Mark Rucker claiming first place in a time of 11.8. Magnolia placed the top three in the 200, with Jason Beisel coming in at 24.1. The 400-meter dash belonged to Beisel of Magnolia. Tyler Consolidated finished second, while Magnolia picked up fourth.

In the 800-meter run, Tyler Consolidated Silver Knight Spencer Corley ran away from the field to claim the top spot as he ran a 2:14.7. The Knights finished with the top four runners in the event. Corley easily won the 1600-meter run as he out-ran the field in 4:50.8. His closest competition was more than a minute back as Magnolia's Spencer Shepard came in with a 5:26.4. The Silver Knights' James Streets grabbed the third spot with a 5:38.0.

The Knights also got the top two spots in the 3200 run with Josh Frum (11:39.8) and James Streets (12:23.9) getting first and second, while Magnolia's Austin Pyles got the third spot. The Silver Knights got a strong showing from their ace hurdler as well; Nathan Barker grabbed the 110-meter hurdles over second place teammate Eli Day. Barker coasted to the win with a 18.3 finish. He then added his second first place run, as he blitzed the field in the 300-meter hurdles with a blazing 46.9 over second place Landon Smith of Paden City.

The 4x100 meter relay belonged to the Silver Knights as they edged out Magnolia for first with a 49.5 to the Blue Eagles' 49.6. Paden City finished third with a time of 52.6. The Knights team consisted of George Tennant, Nick Gorby, Jonathan Miller and Zack Placer. Magnolia's team consisted of Jacob Myers, Jack Booth, Jared Barrows, and James Stillwagoner.

Magnolia (James Stillwagoner, Jack Booth, Logan Beegle, and Jason Beisel) won the 4x200 in a time of 1:40.8, while Tyler Consolidated (Nick Gorby, Mark Rucker, George Tennant, and Jonathan Miller) got second. Paden City finished third. The Silver Knights won the 4x400, edging out Magnolia in a close one - 3:56.2 to 3:56.5. Tennant, Isaac Rush, Destry Nelson, and Placer made up the Knights team. The Knights also grabbed the 4x800 with a big victory over the Blue Eagles' - 9:22.4 to 9:49.3. Running for Tyler was Nelson, Gavin Corley, Josh Frum, and anchoring was Spencer Corley.

The 4x110 meter shuttle hurdle race went to the Knights as they out-ran Paden City for first place with a time of 1:09.2 The winning team consisted of Placer, Evan Maxwell, Day, and Barker. Barker finished with his third first place race of the day.

The high jump belonged to Brooks Parsons of Magnolia with a jump of 5-08.00. The Silver Knights' S. Corley came in second with a 5-.06.0. Magnolia captured three of the top four spots in the event.

The long jump was won by Tyler's Mark Rucker for his second first place win of the day; he got an 18-00.00 to edge out Magnolia's Parsons who leaped 17-08.00. Paden City's Matt Saxon grabbed third with a 17-03.00 showing.

Magnolia took the first five spots in the shot put with Jakob and Jared Barrows throwing first and second with tosses of 43-00.00 and 38-03.50. Jason Anderson of Paden City got the sixth place point for the Wildcats. In the discus, the Blue Eagles dominated by winning the first three positions (Jared Barrows, 128-03; Jakob Barrows, 113-03; and Brooks Parsons, 94-05.50) with Paden City's Anderson and Tyler Consolidated's Garrett Littell tying for fourth.
