We were impressed last week when reviewing a news release concerning Tyler Consolidated student JoLee Walton. If you read the release, or this week's Local Emergency Planning Committee meeting coverage, you would discover that JoLee dedicated her National Honor Society project to raising funds for Project Lifesaver. This organization provides emergency personnel and caregivers with a program designed to protect and quickly locate individuals with cognitive disorders, such as Alzheimer's or dementia, who might wander.

It is safe to say many of us are familiar with the fear and uncertainty that accompanies having a loved one diagnosed with Alzheimer's or dementia. However, an organization such as Project Lifesaver can help. According to the Project Lifesaver website, more than 3,000 individuals have been rescued, thanks to the organization's program. We are grateful our county Office of Emergency Management is an agency for this organization. Furthermore, we are grateful to Jolee Walton, who is showing the importance of, and investing in, this lifesaving program for our community.
